What is a PSA 10 baseball card?
A PSA 10 baseball card is one that Professional Sports Authenticator has graded Gem Mint, the highest regular grade on its 1–10 scale. PSA's standard calls a Gem Mint 10 a virtually perfect card: four sharp corners, clean edges and surface, and the image centered within about 55/45 on the front and 75/25 on the back. A PSA 9 (Mint) allows centering up to 60/40 and a minor flaw. Every grade is explained on our PSA grading scale page.
Phantom Display's explainer (June 30, 2026) points out that a PSA 10 is not the same as a Beckett 10: Beckett's Pristine 10 needs a 10 in each of four subgrades, which many collectors see as stricter.

Why a PSA 10 is worth 1.2 times a 9 for some cards and 13 times for others
The size of the jump depends on how many 10s exist compared with 9s, which depends mostly on when the card was made:
- 1950s cards: so few survived in perfect condition that a PSA 9 is already a top-of-the-market card. The Clemente and Aaron above sell for only 1.2 to 1.3 times more in a 10.
- Late 1980s cards: printed in enormous numbers, so 9s are plentiful and a 10 is where the scarcity is. Griffey Jr. and Bonds sell for about 12 to 13 times more in a 10.
- Modern cards (2010s onward): printed on better stock and often sent straight from the pack to the grader, so 10s are common and the multiple shrinks again: Trout 2.4 times, Ohtani 3.4 times, Acuña 2 times.
So before assuming a 10 will multiply your card's value, check which of these groups it belongs to.
Shohei Ohtani PSA 10s: flagship, Chrome and Bowman
Different Ohtani rookie-year cards have very different PSA 10 populations and prices. All Vintage Cards' guide (updated April 20, 2025) listed these PSA 10 prices and PSA 10 population counts:
- 2018 Bowman Chrome Rookie Autograph: $15,000, 47 PSA 10s.
- 2018 Topps Chrome Rookie Autograph #RA-SO: $5,000, 48 PSA 10s.
- 2018 Bowman Chrome #1: $1,200, 4,576 PSA 10s.
- 2018 Topps Chrome #150: $200, 14,082 PSA 10s.
- 2018 Topps Update #US1: $130, 14,870 PSA 10s.
Those are April 2025 figures; SportsCardsPro's Sept. 25, 2026 value for the 2018 Topps flagship #700 in PSA 10 is $916. The lesson from the population counts: when more than 14,000 copies already hold a 10, a 10 is not scarce, and the price shows it.
How to tell if your card could be a PSA 10
- Centering first. Measure the borders; if the wider side is more than about 55% on the front, a 10 is unlikely. Our grade-it-yourself checklist shows how to measure.
- Corners and edges under magnification. Any white showing on a dark border, or a corner that is not a sharp point, usually rules out a 10.
- Surface under a light at an angle. Print lines, dimples and scratches show when you tilt the card.
- Check the population report for that exact card. If thousands of 10s exist, the 10 premium is small; if very few do, even a 9 may sell well.
- Do the arithmetic. At $59.99 per card (PSA Standard, Sept. 2026), a card whose PSA 10 value is under about $100 rarely repays grading once shipping is added.
Sports cards submitted in the first half of 2025 earned a 10 34% of the time, and those were cards their owners chose as their best (GemRate via Yahoo Sports, July 8, 2025).
Buying a PSA 10 baseball card
Most results for this search are shops: GameStop's graded card listings, eBay's PSA 10 category and PSA's own price guide. Before buying, compare the asking price with recent completed sales of the same card in the same grade, look the certification number up on PSA's cert page, and check the holder itself; our PSA slab guide lists what a fake holder looks like.
Identify the card before you price or grade it
Take one straight photo of the front and one of the back, so the year, set and card number are readable. StarLens reads the player, set and number from the photo. Then match the result against the checks on this page before you trust any price.

Research and drafting for this page were assisted by AI and checked line by line against the sources listed below. Every price names its source and date. Some sites we wanted to cite (PSA, SportsCardsPro product pages, eBay, Beckett) refused automated access on Sept. 25, 2026; where that left a gap, the page says so instead of guessing. FAQ
What is PSA 10 in baseball cards?
It is the Gem Mint grade, the highest regular grade PSA gives: a virtually perfect card with the image centered within about 55/45 on the front and 75/25 on the back.
How much is a PSA 10 card worth?
It depends entirely on the card. On our list, PSA 10 baseball rookies range from $39 (2018 Topps Update Acuña) to $697,500 (1955 Topps Clemente), SportsCardsPro, Sept. 25, 2026.
How much does PSA charge for a $1,000 card?
$59.99 in the Standard tier, which covers cards worth up to $1,000, or $79.99 in Priority for up to $1,500 (September 2026).
How can I tell if my card is worth grading for a PSA 10?
Check centering, corners, edges and surface first, then compare the card's PSA 10 price with its raw price. If the difference is not clearly more than about $60 plus shipping, grading will not pay even if the card gets a 10.
Is a PSA 9 much worse than a PSA 10?
In condition, only slightly. In price it varies: a PSA 10 1955 Topps Clemente is 1.2 times a 9, but a PSA 10 1989 Upper Deck Griffey Jr. is about 12 times a 9 (SportsCardsPro, Sept. 25, 2026).
